You can mitigate weed growth while building healthy soil using this material as a weed mat by adding gypsum beneath each layer you install, which then builds tilth in the soil thru carbon sequestration from the interaction of the gypsum, the microbes through the degrading weed mats.
Over time, you’ll notice improvements in your soil structure as your weed profile changes from deep-rooted noxious weeds to shallower-rooted cover crop plants.
This innovative solution not only helps mitigate weed growth but also enhances soil health. It’s a better alternative to traditional fabric or plastic weed mats, which can compact the soil and eventaully it will need to be ripped up, instead of building the tilth in the soil with the perforated cardboard.
